(KTTS News) — Gas prices are down again just in time for Thanksgiving travel in Missouri.

Springfield is the only place in Missouri where gas prices actually went up over the last week.

Press Release

The statewide gas price average in Missouri is $2.89 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Missouri Weekend Gas Watch.

That price is seven cents less compared to this day last week and is 33 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Missouri, drivers in Jefferson City are paying the most on average at $3.07 while drivers in Joplin are paying the least at $2.64 per gallon.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.28, which is six cents less compared to this day last week and 36 cents less than the price per gallon at this same time last year, according to AAA Gas Prices.

The more than 951,000 Missourians drivers hitting the road for Thanksgiving will be thankful to fill up with some of the lowest prices seen this year.

While price fluctuations have occurred in some markets, lower crude oil prices and healthy supply are pushing fuel prices lower in the Show Me State and around the region.

AAA projects a 1 percent increase in road travel this Thanksgiving compared to 2022.

“Missouri drivers can be thankful for the third lowest statewide average seen all year, just ahead of the holiday,” said AAA Spokesperson Nick Chabarria. “Not only have prices been on the decline for last six weeks, but drivers will pay 33 cents less than this time last Thanksgiving.”

Drivers in Missouri are paying the 8th lowest gas price average in the country, according to gasprices.aaa.com.
