Springfield-Greene County health officials say the daily case count for COVID-19 is starting to slow down in the Springfield area, but the current rate of cases is still greater than any time during the pandemic.
Health director Katie Towns says the community has not seen a peak in the surge of cases of COVID-19.
On Wednesday, the seven day average COVID-19 per day was 716.
Katie Towns 251 people are hospitalized.
Ten more people have died, bringing the total number of deaths in Greene County in January to 27.
Towns says the people who died were not vaccinated.
She said people who don’t get the vaccine are 16 times more likely to be hospitalized because of COVID-19.
