(KTTS News) — Evacuations were reported in southeast Springfield after a gas main explosion.
It happened before noon Monday near Charleston and Briar Street.
Crews were doing maintenance work when explosions sent flames into the air and caused power outages in the area.
Three workers had minor injuries.
The fire caused significant damage to powerlines and there was minor damage to a couple of nearby homes.
City Utilities reported nearly two thousand customers without power, and the outages were extending into the Lake Springfield area.
Homes and businesses were being evacuated in the area near Charleston Avenue and Republic Road.

One picture shows flames at least ten feet above the roofline of a house in the area around Charleston and Briar Street.
Hundreds of customers lost power after the incident according to the Springfield City Utilities Outage Map.
No one was hurt.
