(KTTS News) — Springfield Police have identified a man who was shot to death Wednesday morning.

42-year-old Jimmie E. Johnson III, from Springfield, was found in the backyard of a home near National and Turner.

He’d been shot in the chest.

He died at the hospital.

Police are still trying to identify the shooter.

On May 3, 2023, at 1:54 a.m., Springfield Police Department officers responded to a report of someone who had been shot behind a residence at 2304 N. National Ave.

When officers arrived, they located a man lying in the back yard with a gunshot wound.

The victim, 42-year-old Jimmie E. Johnson III, from Springfield, was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Johnson’s family has been notified.

A suspect has not yet been identified in this case.

Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810.
