Possibility of Snow Later This Week, National Weather Service Says

The National Weather Service says snow is a possibility early Thursday morning following a cold front moving in on Tuesday.

Current predictions by meteorologists describe a cold front moving through the Ozarks late Tuesday night, causing much colder temperatures for a few days.

While the initial front is predicted to be pretty dry, a separate system will come through quickly Wednesday night from Kansas to southern and central Missouri.

The question meteorologists are asking is how dry will it be when that second system is coming through?

“We might have enough moisture to give us an inch or two of snow,” says Meteorologist Drew Albert at the National Weather Service, “but that might be the higher end of what we could get.”

He isn’t perfectly sure on the outcome. Albert says the team is always re-evaluating information to make better informed predictions.

“North of Springfield, maybe an inch of snow.” he says.

The National Weather Service predicts a dusting over Springfield itself, officially pinning the amount at 3/10th of an inch.

Albert says he currently expects that drivers will see snow during their early morning commute on Thursday.

Despite the cold front, temperatures are expected to enter the fifties by the weekend.
