More Details Provided By Joplin Authorities Following Officer-Involved Shooting

More details are being provided about an officer-involved shooting in Joplin from last month.

Officers had been dispatched to a home on South Kentucky on October 30 just before 4 p.m. for a woman who said she was being assaulted by a man with a bat.

 Authorities say a man in the home refused to come out and displayed a firearm, shots were exchanged between the man and three Joplin officers.

The man, who was identified as Shane Endicott from Carl Junction.

At the time of the shooting, Endicott was wanted on unrelated charges of first-degree robbery and vehicle tampering.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

On October 30th, 2021, at 3:42 pm the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call of a report of a disturbance with a weapon at 1523 S. Kentucky
Avenue.

A female caller reported being assaulted by a male with a bat.

During the call she identified the suspect as Shane Endicott. Officers arrived on scene shortly after the call was received and located an adult male in the bathroom of the home. Officers attempted numerous times to get him to exit the room, but he refused.

During the incident, the male displayed a handgun which resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the male and three JPD Officers. He did not survive the shooting.

He was identified as Shane Endicott, age 41 of Carl Junction, Missouri. At the time of the shooting, Endicott was also wanted on unrelated charges of 1st Degree Robbery and Vehicle Tampering. The officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave per department policy and procedure.

The investigation of this incident is still ongoing and no further details are available to be released at this time.
