SPRINGFIELD, MO — Rising COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations have caused the Downtown Springfield Association to make the difficult decision to postpone Taste of SoMo.

The food tasting event, presented by SGC Foodservice, had been scheduled for Aug. 28 at Park Central Square. Its new date is Oct. 16, from noon-5 p.m.

“We are hopeful that by this time our vaccination rates will have gone up, with cases and hospitalizations trending down,” Jennifer Moseley, DSA Event Manager, said. “We also recognize that some of our restaurant friends are having staff issues and we hope this delay will help them on that end as well.”

The early-bird registration deadline for restaurants and food trucks is extended to Aug. 20. The $50 fee will be good until 5 p.m. that day. Applications are available online. Volunteers are still needed for Taste of SoMo. Those applications are also available online.

This family-friendly event includes food tasting, soft drink and beer sales, and live music. Admission is free and tasting tickets are $10 for a sheet of 10. Taste of SoMo raises money for Ozarks Food Harvest.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the community back to Downtown Springfield in October and celebrating the amazing restaurants and food trucks we have Downtown and across Southwest Missouri,” Moseley said.
