A man is in the hospital after a shooting this morning west of Springfield.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says the man apparently tried to break into a home on West Independence Drive north of I-44.
The homeowner shot him.
Authorities don’t believe the homeowner knew the suspect.

On 7/2/21, at 6:37am, Greene County Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 6000 block of W. Independence Drive for a residential burglary.
Deputies arrived on scene and located a male with an apparent gunshot wound.
The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The condition of the injured male is unknown at this time.
It appears that the male was forcing entry into the residence and was confronted by the homeowner who retrieved a firearm and shot the male.
This is an ongoing investigation, more details will be released when available.
We believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
