City Of Nixa Amends Trash Service Agreement; Replaces Citywide Clean-Up Day

As part of a Nixa City Council vote, there’s been a change to the city’s trash service agreement.

The agreement between Nixa and Republic Services previously had a “citywide clean-up day” once a year but the amended agreement says Republic Services will now pick up one large item each week as needed per residential home throughout the year.

Acceptable Large items include:

  • Furniture (indoor or outdoor including couches, tables, chairs, tv stands, etc.)
  • Bed frame
  • Mattress (must be wrapped in plastic)
  • Toilet/vanity
  • Hand tools
  • Electric power tools
  • Weed eaters & gas-powered tools (must be drained of all fuel and oil)
  • Boxes
  • Dresser
  • TV/monitor
  • Outdoor toys
  • Bicycle
  • Microwave oven
  • Grill (no propane tank)
  • Or up to 10 additional bags or boxes of waste not to exceed 70 lbs. each

Unacceptable items include:

  • Tires
  • Propane tanks
  • Appliances
  • Construction projects/fence/carpet/decks/etc.
  • Rocks, bricks, concrete
  • Hazardous waste (including paint, oil, aerosol cans, fertilizers, etc.)
  • Brush/limbs/yard waste
  • Bulk liquids
  • Vehicles/large vehicle parts/motors/tires/batteries

Below are more details from a press release…

“If you leave an unacceptable item at the curb, trash collection crew will not pick it up and will leave it at the curb for the property owner to dispose of properly.

Republic Services crews cannot help you move your items to the curb. If you have many smaller items, please put them in bags or boxes for easier pick-up. (Don’t forget to tie all trash bags so the wind cannot blow trash around.)

Republic Services also offers scheduled pick up for very large items which are too big or too heavy to be considered “large items”. Call Republic Services at 417-268-1265 or 417-268-1261 to schedule a very large item to be picked up.

Nixa residents may drop off appliances, yard waste, and other recyclables at the Nixa Recycle Center. Learn more here: https://www.nixa.com/departments/public-works/recycling-center

If you have hazardous waste to dispose of, please call the Springfield Household Chemical Collection Center: 417-864-1904 or 417-864-2000

Additionally, the City and Republic Services will work together to provide neighborhood cleanup events to up to 2 neighborhoods each year. These events have not been scheduled at this time.”
