Willard Police Department Enters Grant Contest

The Willard police department have entered a grant contest called Hometown Proud.

Kubota’s Hometown Proud Grant Program winner will receive a $100,000 grant to help fund their local revitalization effort.

If Willard wins the grant, it will go to the Camp Character program.

Voting will end on Friday, June 25th.

Here’s more about the Willard PAL Camp Character program:

The Willard PAL was implemented in Willard, MO, in June 2009.

Initially the program consisted of only youth boxing, but over the years the program has grown to offering hundreds of kids access to activities at Camp Character, a 49-acre tract of land nestled in a heavily wooded area with a stream, that is in the making to become a safer outdoor environment for kids to explore the outdoors.

The Camp Character program is built upon leadership skills and the 4-character attributes of Responsibility, Honor, Self-control and Discernment. And, while participating in Camp Character is fun, it puts vetted volunteers in a position to speak and demonstrate strength and honor for the kids who choose to cooperate at Camp Character.

The grant funding, if awarded, would be used for materials and for hiring workers to clear brush/vegetation management, add a hiking trail, improve the road, add running water for handwashing stations and onsite bathroom facilities, and to increase overall access, functionality and enjoyment at the site.
