The westbound left lane of I-44 at the 75.5 mile marker in Springfield remains closed after a sinkhole was found in the median this week.
MoDOT District Maintenence Engineer Darin Hamelink says there is a risk of the sinkhole spreading into the passing lane.
The sinkhole is backing up traffic for miles.
KY3 says crews are working around they clock.
They hope to have the repairs done before it starts raining Sunday.
