Police Investigating Stabbing Death In Southern Missouri

HOUSTON, Mo. (AP) — Police in south-central Missouri are investigating the stabbing death of a man in the town of Houston.

Officers were called to a house in the town of about 2,500 just around 1 a.m. Wednesday and found the body of 30-year-old Billy Hayes Jr., television station KYTV reported.

The Houston Police Department said Hayes had suffered multiple stab wounds. One man was arrested in the case, police said. His name was not released, as formal charges had not been made against him by late Wednesday.

Houston Police Chief Brad Evans says Hayes’ death marked the city’s first homicide since 1998.

Houston is about 74 miles (119 kilometers) east of Springfield.
