Police in Rolla responded to a home on Lynwood Drive for a child being attacked by a pit bull Saturday.
Officers found a 13-year-old with life threatening injuries from the attack.
The child had been delivering cupcakes to a neighbor when the dog got off its chain and then went after the child.
The dog had pinned the child to the ground while biting his face, neck and head.
Adults were able to pry the dog away from the boy but the dog broke free and went back to attacking the child.
The pit bull was taken to a local veterinary clinic and was euthanized.
The child was taken to a hospital in St. Louis by helicopter due to the major injuries.
