Vaccine Not Yet Available For High Risk Individuals

Missouri has started the next phase of the vaccination process, starting with shots for first responders, emergency workers, and health care workers who weren’t eligible during the first round.

On Monday, people age 65 and older and those at high risk for getting sick will officially be able to get the vaccine.

But the Springfield-Greene County Health Department says even though the governor’s office has approved giving out the vaccine to high-risk individuals, you won’t be able to get it yet.

Local health officials are still waiting for the first vaccines to arrive.

The state says the first doses from the federal government could arrive as soon as next week.

Health officials are urging you to sign up for updates and start planning ahead.

Mercy is registering non-patient facing health care workers, first responders, and emergency personnel who are eligible to get the next round of the coronavirus vaccine.

CoxHealth is doing a survey to find out how many people want the shot.

It says it will notify people once they’re able to register.

Some workers in Springfield did get the vaccine Thursday.

You can find out if you’re eligible for the shot by clicking here.

Here’s more from the health department:

As our community awaits vaccine from the state for those considered high risk, Springfield-area healthcare partners are encouraging people to sign up for updates and start planning ahead.

The governor’s office has approved vaccinations for certain high-risk individuals beginning Monday. However, vaccine doses from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department are not yet available for these individuals.  Vaccine doses are extremely limited across the region and the health department is working actively with healthcare partners to obtain supply. The state anticipates additional vaccine from the federal government next week. However, we do not have more specific details on when that vaccine will become available in Greene County.

The Phase 1B-Tier 2 group includes:

  • Anyone 65 and older
  • Any adults with:
    • Cancer
    • Chronic kidney disease
    • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
    • Heart conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies
    • Weakened immune system due to organ transplant
    • Severe obesity (BMI>40)
    • Pregnancy
    • Sickle cell disease
