Springfield Health Officials say wastewater data has shown a spike of the COVID-19 virus in wastewater.
Wastewater studies have a proven track record on the East Coast and in Europe and rely on the observation that virus shedding occurs before symptoms usually develop. This information can help health professionals prepare for caseload increases.
The studies are done through Missouri State University and have been running since early October.
