College Of The Ozarks Mourns Loss Of Dr. Howell Keeter

A man whose name is synonymous with College of the Ozarks is being mourned by faculty, students and staff.

Dr. Howell Keeter served more than 50 years at the school in Point Lookout, with roles ranging from work coordinator to chancellor and trustee, acting president and vice president.

He died over the weekend following a brief illness.

He started at the school on June 1, 1970, and was beginning his 51st year of service.

College President Jerry Davis says Keeter’s career touched three long presidencies at the institution, and his leadership and insights provided continuity.

“I most valued his dependability and his always looking out for the best interests of the college,” Davis said. “His judgement was invaluable. He was especially concerned for the welfare of the students from the towns and villages of the Ozarks.”

A visitation for Dr. Keeter will be held from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Holt Chapel in Harrison, Arkansas.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Blue Eye Cemetery.
