A former student minister at the First Baptist Church of Strafford is charged with seven felony counts of inappropriate sexual behavior with a minor.

Jeff Taylor, 46, is charged with first-degree and second-degree statutory sodomy, statutory rape. Taylor has pleaded not-guilty.

First Baptist says it immediately contacted law enforcement agencies and is being as transparent in the investigation.

Court records say the victim testified to the abuse after hearing how Taylor was involved with an adult woman at the church. Taylor faces up to life in prison.

The probable cause statement says he admitted to the charges, saying “It was based in love;” “I knew what I had done;” To me, it was the way that I could love her.” Taylor also reportedly said, “Whatever picture of love she has now, I put it there. It’s my fault.”

There have been no allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior toward any other minors at the church, or who have participated in church activities.
