Man Wanted For Assault And Burglary In Douglas County Back In Custody

A man described as a “frequent flier” at the Douglas County Jail is back behind bars Thursday after being on the run for nearly two weeks.

Doyle Shelton, Jr. was wanted for assault and burglary.

He’s accused of walking into a home near Rome and assaulting a woman.

Shelton was sentenced to 12 years in prison following his arrest in 2017, but just got out of a long term treatment facility three months ago.

Sheriff Chris Degase says he found Shelton Wednesday night hiding in a home near Theodosia.

When he knocked on the door, a man who answered told the sheriff Shelton was inside.

Shelton tried to run out the back door, but went back inside and was eventually taken into custody.
