Springfield-Greene County Health Department Warns of High Risk COVID-19 Exposure

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is notifying the public of a high risk community exposure.

The exposure comes from one person who was at the Dan Kinney Family Center on Blackman road over the course of several days.

The health department estimates over 300 people were exposed.

  • Friday, July 24: Worked out from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. (infectious but not symptomatic)
  • Saturday, July 25: Worked out from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. (infectious but not symptomatic)
  • Sunday, July 26: Worked out from 10:40 a.m. to 12:40 pm. (infectious and symptomatic)
  • Monday, July 27: Worked out from 7:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. (infectious and symptomatic)
  • Tuesday, August 4: Worked out from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (infectious but not symptomatic)

The health department says anyone who was at this location on these dates is at an enhanced risk for contracting COVID-19 and should monitor for symptoms.

There is no need to self-quarantine or isolate unless symptoms develop.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

The following is from a press release by the Springfield Park Board:

“This is extremely disappointing news to us, given the extensive COVID-19 protocols we’ve put into place,” said Bob Belote, Director of Parks. “But ultimately we’re only as safe as our patrons and the personal responsibility they exhibit. For everyone contemplating using our facilities, we implore you to do the right thing: if you’re symptomatic, please stay home and don’t put others at risk.”

In additional to following city ordinance and Road to Recovery guidelines, numerous COVID-19 prevention measures are in place at all Park Board family centers, including at Dan Kinney. Guests and staff wear face coverings at the entrance, lobby, restrooms and changing rooms. Capacity limits are in place for the facility as well as each room or area, with facility monitors taking hourly headcounts. Exercise equipment stations are spaced at least 6 feet apart. All equipment is disinfected between users. Classes accommodate physical distancing. On-site janitorial staff provide constant cleaning and disinfection. And signs throughout the facilities remind guests and staff about COVID-19 prevention basics: maintain a 6-foot distance from others, wash your hands, cover coughs and sneezes, avoid touching your face, and stay home if you have any symptoms of illness.

Due to consistent hourly and daily cleaning protocols, and the amount of time elapsed since the individual visited the facility, Dan Kinney Family Center remains open regular hours.
