Marshfield is “strongly encouraging” people to wear masks in public.
It’s also “strongly discouraging” mass gatherings.

In an effort to notify all business owners of changes as timely as possible, most of you are receiving this letter by e-mail. I believe each of you are owed that courtesy. For those who do not have an e-mail account on file with us, we will also be sending this information by mail, posting on our website, posting on our Facebook account, and sending media releases tomorrow.
In the past few weeks, Webster County has seen our first significant development of COVID-19 cases. Our total positive cases have increased from only 15 on June 15th, to a total of 45 as of yesterday. As of today, I am told that we have more than 20 active cases in the county. This is the largest number of active cases we have seen at one time and while it is concerning, I feel we are very fortunate that number is a low as it is. However, due to the related concern, the Webster County COVID-19 Task Force reversed some forward progress made in the County’s recovery plan and issued new guidance regarding business operations last week.
After conferring with many individuals, I have issued a new executive order (attached) which will go into effect at 12:01 AM Friday, July 10th, 2020. This new order is a continuation of several pre-existing guidelines, and the issuance of new guidelines meant to solidify our approach to fighting this virus while allowing commerce to take place at the highest level possible. I wish I was relaxing the restrictions instead of adding new, but I am not a health official and when all the health officials I have spoken with encourage the same or similar path, I feel it is in the best interest of our citizens that I follow their lead.
At this time, this order “strongly encourages” facemask protection and “strongly discourages” mass gatherings. These wordings require each of us to exercise personal responsibility for our actions and make the best decisions possible for our community no matter what our opinion of this virus may be. I will be the first to tell you, I have visited businesses and attended mass gatherings without the use of facemask protection. I promise to try and do better, and that is what this order is asking of everyone else as well.
