Springfield Police Officer Run Over Outside Headquarters, Suspect Shot

Springfield Police have released the name of the man who ran over an officer with his SUV outside of police headquarters.

Police say 28-year-old Jon Routh first caused a disturbance around 9:30 Tuesday morning by urinating on the front door of the building.

He left but came back, floored his SUV and ran over Officer Mark Priebe, a 21-year veteran.

Priebe was trapped under the vehicle and pinned up against a concrete post.

Another officer tried to get Routh to stop driving, and when he didn’t, the officer shot him.

Both men were taken to the hospital.

Officer Priebe was conscious and talking when he left the scene.

Original Story:

An officer and a suspect have been rushed to local hospitals following an assault on the officer at Springfield Police Headquarters on east Chestnut Expressway Tuesday morning.

Police say a person came into the lobby Tuesday morning, acting irate, left and then returned.

That person then ran over a Springfield police officer with a vehicle on the parking lot.

A second officer then shot the suspect.

Both the officer and the suspect have been transported to a local hospital.

Their conditions are not known.

Springfield Police Chief updated the media around 10:15 a.m.
