Springfield Public Schools Celebrating Last Day Of School Across District

An unusual school year is ending today with unusual events as Springfield Public Schools celebrates its last day of school across the district.

The events, planned to maintain social distancing guidelines include:

Boyd Teacher Parade

At 3 p.m., Boyd will have a parade of teachers and PTA  to see kids and wave to them. We will travel along the streets around Boyd Elementary. Starting at Boyd, cars will line up facing Lynn Street and then parade through the neighborhood, ending at Boyd.

Cowden Goodbye Drive-By

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., students are invited to drive through the school parking lot where teachers will be positioned to wave goodbye.


Delaware Teacher Tour of New School

At 4 p.m., Delaware teachers will get a first look at their new school, which is currently under construction. Teachers will be able to tour the inside of the school in preparation for next school year when the new Delaware school will open.

Gray Teacher Wave Out

At 3:30 p.m., teachers will stand on the sidewalk and students with parents can drive through for a “wave out.”

Pittman Scream and Shout Parade

From 9 a.m. to noon, Principal Laura Batson will be on the school roof to celebrate the students’ successful completion of the virtual Reading Challenge. Students are invited to drive through the school parking lot between noon and 1 p.m. so that teachers can say goodbye for the school year.

Pipkin Teacher Parade

At 1 p.m., teachers will depart from Pipkin Middle School to drive through the neighborhood to celebrate the last day of school with students. The parade will last about 30 minutes and will conclude with teachers returning to Pipkin.

Weller Fifth-Grade Parade

From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.  students have been invited to drive through the Weller parking lot so Weller staff can wave, cheer and wish students well as they embark on their middle school journey.
