Multiple agencies are investigating in the St. Louis area after a man shot a Webster Groves police officer along I-44 Tuesday night.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch , the Missouri Highway Patrol says the officer stopped to help who he thought was a stranded driver near the Elm Avenue exit, when the man began shooting.
Both the officer and suspect were shot several times.
The suspect died and the officer is in stable condition at a local hospital and is expected to survive.
Traffic was shut down on westbound I-44 for several hours while authorities investigated the shooting.
