Springfield Hotel Industry Takes Hit During Stay-At-Home Order

Stay-At-Home orders around the country have made an impact on the hotel industry.

Statistics in Springfield are well below normal with recovery looking to be in the distant future.

For the week of April 19-26, statistics show a decrease of 65.2% occupancy with revenue down 77.1%.

With many local event cancellations, hotels are missing out on thousands and thousands of potential customers.

Over 115,000 people were expected to attend those events, generating more than 40,000 hotel bookings.

Since mid-March, over 40 events booked by The Convention & Visitors Bureau and Springfield Sports Commission have been cancelled due to COVID-19 related issues.

Without rebooking the events, that revenue will not be made up on hotel books.

The Convention & Visitors Bureau is trying to encourage those who have cancelled large events to reshedule them at a later date, but the uncertainty of a return to normalcy makes it hard to do so.

The local economy was projected to bring in over $26 million in additional income from the events.

Luckily, the Stay-At-Home order is lifted in Springfield and Greene County Monday.

Though there are still several restrictions regarding gatherings, business will begin to return to normal.
