Expect Springfield And Greene County To Have Stricter Rules When Re-opening Next Week

On Thursday, Springfield and Greene County leaders will unveil their own guidelines for re-opening the economy next week, but you can expect those rules to be stricter than Governor Parson’s “Show Me Strong” recovery plan.

Springfield Mayor Ken McClure says Parson’s order is “too lenient for what we need to do here in Springfield and Greene County.”

For example, the statewide order allows crowds to gather for sporting events and concerts as long as social distancing is maintained. “Mass gatherings are a problem,” McClure said. “That’s where the disease has the most opportunity to spread, and so we want to look at that very, very closely.”

Springfield-Greene County Health Director Clay Goddard is leading the cautious approach. “We’re walking a tightrope, right?” Goddard said. “What’s interesting about the position I’m in is if I navigate this right, eventually everybody will be mad at me.”
