The fifth floor Cox Health tower is open and ready for a surge of Coronavirus patients.
The room was bare concrete a few weeks ago before being converted into a COVID wing of the hospital.
CoxHealth CEO Steve Edwards said the wing is only meant to be used if other locations are filled to capacity.
He adds that he hopes that never happens.
The new wing is equipped with ventilators, and is designed to conserve personal protective equipment.
Edwards said the space is designed to help treat people and protect employees. He said if he doesn’t protect his employees, they can’t protect the community.
