The Springfield Alamo Drafthouse let nearly 200 people go last Monday.
Information from Missouri Department of Economic Development showed workers from bar staff, to servers, to salaried managers, had been let go.
The co-owner of the theatre wrote in a letter that the layoff is hopefully temporary in nature.
Initial claims for unemployment in Missouri have jumped from 70,000 to 281,000.
