KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A western Missouri woman in her 80s has died from the new coronavirus, marking the second death in the state.
The death of the Jackson County woman was announced Friday, on the same day the number of COVID-19 cases in Missouri nearly doubled, to 47 from 28 a day earlier.
The jump was largely attributable to private lab test results being reported to the state.
Jackson County officials say the woman who died had not recently traveled, raising concerns about community spread.
A new case in Pulaski County also involved someone who had not traveled.
