West Plains Police Department Welcomes New K9 Officer

For nearly a year, West Plains has had to seek help from other police agencies if they needed K9 assistance on a case.

That’s not the case any longer.

The police department has a new four-legged officer reporting for duty Sunday.

His name is Loki and he’s a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois.

He’s an excellent drug sniffer, bad guy catcher and tracker of missing persons.

Instead of getting K9 assistance from surrounding stations, West Plains Police Department now has the ability to assist other departments with the addition of Loki.

Authorities put Loki’s tracking skills to the test with a mock scenario involving a bad guy and a gun.

In the drill, the bad guy threw his gun and hid from police.

Loki recovered both of them in no time and is more than prepared for duty!

Good luck today, K9 Officer Loki!

The department says they will likely add another K9 Officer later this year, thanks to tens of thousands of dollars in donations from the community.
