Greenwood, Kickapoo, Rogersville And Hartville Advance To Finals At Greenwood Blue And Gold Tournament

Hartville, Rogersville, Springfield Kickapoo and Greenwood are headed to the finals in the 74th Annual Greenwood Blue and Gold Basketball Tournament at JQH Arena in Springfield.

After a day off Sunday, Monday’s action begins with the third place games at 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and concludes with the championship contests at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

(3) Greenwood 51, (2) Ozark 47:

The Blue Jays win a nail-biter over the Tigers to advance to their first Blue and Gold championship game since 1991. It’s only the host team’s fourth overall appearance in the finals.

Greenwood led 14-13 after one quarter, but Ozark came back to grab a four point halftime advantage, 25-21.

Ozark also led by four after three quarters and went up by seven early in the fourth period, but the Blue Jays whittled away at the lead, cutting it to 46-44 with under three minutes remaining.

Aminu Mohammed’s shot off the glass with 42 seconds left in regulation gave the Blue Jays the lead, 48-47.

Ozark’s Blaine Cline missed a shot with 22 seconds left and Greenwood’s Tommy Pinegar drained two free throws with 10.7 seconds on the clock to up the lead to 50-47.

Ethan Whatley missed a three point attempt with seven seconds left, and the Blue Jays clinched the win with a free throw.

Cline finished with 13 points to lead the Tigers in scoring.

Greenwood’s superstar had another great night as Mohammed scored 34 points and went 9-12 from the free throw line.

He’s 19 points away from tying Willard’s Daniel Abreu (125) for the most points in a single Blue and Gold Tournament, a record set just last year.

Mohammed is just the second player to have multiple games of 35 or more points in the tournament, putting in 36 in each of his first two appearances this year.

Bradleyville’s Darrell Paul scored 39 points in a game in 1963 and 36 in another that same tournament.

(1) Springfield Kickapoo 53, (4) Republic 44:

The Chiefs earn a trip to the Gold Division championship game, leading throughout its contest against the Tigers.

Kickapoo went up 18-8 after one quarter and 30-18 at the half.

The Chiefs extended its lead to 18 points in the third quarter, before the Tigers got within single digits down the stretch.

Anton Brookshire’s 17 points for Kickapoo led all scorers.

Drew McMillin had 12 points to lead Republic.

(6) Rogersville 43, (2) Nixa 42:

The Logan Rogersville Wildcats win a thriller over the Nixa Eagles in the Blue Division on a tip-in at the buzzer by Cade Blevins.

Blevins took the inbounds pass with six tenths of a second on the clock and tipped in the winner. The horn sounded as the ball was in the air, touching off a wild celebration for the Wildcats at mid-court.

Josh Linehan (12 points) and Kanon Gipson (11 points) led Rogersville in scoring.

Kaleb Wofford’s 13 points led the Eagles.
