Authorities are searching for a man who fled from police and deputies in a vehicle Thursday after what is described as a “domestic situation gone south” took place.
A woman was in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
The incident was formerly described as a kidnapping. Strafford Police Chief Dennis Shook says that is not the case.
The man ended up running away with a gun. A K-9 unit pursued him and eventually recovered the gun.
Shook says that Strafford Police do not think that the man is a danger to the community.
The incident began at a McDonalds in Strafford when an acquaintance overheard a discussion between a man and a woman. The acquaintance followed the vehicle and called 911.
Webster County Deputies and then Strafford Police entered into a pursuit of the vehicle that ended in a field near Camping World.
The suspect fled the vehicle with a firearm. Police released a K-9 unit that recovered the firearm.
The woman was left in the vehicle and authorities say she is safe.
