Missouri State Bears Hold On To Beat Arkansas State 75-53 At JQH Arena

The Missouri State Bears get four scorers in double figures and beat the Arkansas State Red Wolves 75-53 Wednesday night at JQH Arena.

Keandre Cook led all scorers with 17 points, with Lamont West adding 13, Tyrik Dixon 12 and Gaige Prim 11.

The Bears, who held Arkansas State to 16 points in the first half, led by 20 early in the second half, only to watch the Red Wolves pull within six of the lead, 51-45, with 9:22 left in regulation.

But MSU used a 19-4 run to break the game open, highlighted by a three pointer from Cook and two treys from Dixon.

Bears Coach Dana Ford talked to the media following the game:

Prim made the most of his 23 minutes of playing time, pulling down four rebounds to go with his 11 points.

MSU  (6-5) shot 57% from the field, including 6-14 from the three point line.

The Red Wolves (7-3) shot only 38% from the floor, despite making 14 of 16 attempts from the foul line.

The contest was physical and emotional, with each team being whistled for one technical foul (J.J. Matthews for Arkansas State and Lamont West for MSU).

The Bears will play at VCU Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

Game Notes: 

Missouri State committed 14 turnovers, including six in the first half.

Ja’Monta Black, a 6-3 freshman guard from Columbia, Missouri, started the game for the Bears, but failed to score in nine minutes of play.

Coach Dana Ford improves to 22-21 at Missouri State.

Wednesday’s announced attendance at JQH Arena was 3,891.
