Don’t be surprised to sit at some stoplights in Springfield longer than you used to.
City traffic engineers are changing the timing of lights based on the time of day and traffic patterns, especially on major roads like Sunshine, National and Kansas Expressway.
Engineers say the goal is to ease traffic congestion.
For example, when you’re headed to work, engineers coordinate lights to handle the flow to the center of the city, then make adjustments at lunch time and the end of the day.
But they say you can help by paying attention when the light changes to green so traffic doesn’t get backed up behind you.
