A war memorial to the soldiers of World War I in Springfield has been approved for relocation.

The monument has been pushed over or defaced several times in the recent decade and will now be relocated to Springfield National Cemetery.

The move was requested by the local chapter of the Sons of the Revolution.

The Obelisk was dedicated in 1924 and has stood on Grant Beach Park ever since.
