Springfield Man Charged With Making Terrorist Threat

A man who walked into a Walmart in Southwest Springfield on Thursday carrying a loaded tactical rifle and wearing body armor, and carrying 100 rounds of ammunition, has been charged with making a terrorist threat.

20-year-old Dmitriy Andreychenko from Springfield is charged with making a terrorist threat in the 2nd degree after walking through the Walmart Neighborhood Market at Republic and Golden.

He was pushing a cart through the store, recording himself with his cell phone, and talking to customers.

A former firefighter stopped him outside the store and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

According to a probable cause statement, Andreychenko told police he wanted to know if Walmart respected his second amendment right to own a gun.

He posted on his Facebook page several months before that he was upset that people under 21 can’t buy ammo, but they can still carry a weapon into the store.

You can see the Facebook post below.

The Greene County Prosecutor says while you can openly carry a weapon, the law doesn’t allow you to act in a reckless and criminal manner endangering others.

Andreychenko told police he was surprised at the way people reacted.

He told police he wanted to protect himself after the recent mass shootings, so he went out and bought the rifle and body armor.

Police talked to the man’s wife.

She said her husband told her that he was going to walk into Walmart with a gun.

She said he wanted to see if they respected his second amendment rights.

Andreychenko’s wife told him that would not be a smart idea.

She called him an immature boy.

Police also interviewed the man’s sister.

She said Andreychenko asked her to go into the store and record him.

She told him no.

Andreychenko faces up to four-years in prison if he’s convicted.

He’s in the Greene County Jail.
