Man Arrested In Connection To Fatal Crash Involving Stolen Budget Truck

Springfield police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal crash at Campbell and Republic road on July 18th.

The police department says on Friday, July 26, detectives located a Ford Escape on Madison in Springfield.

Police believe it was involved in the theft of a Budget Rental truck that was subsequently involved in the fatal crash that killed Matthew T. Brown.

Brown was a Missouri State University security manager and was 43-years-old

Police say after further investigation, officers arrested of a 27-year-old man from Springfield, Shannon J. Shaffer Jr.

The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges of 2nd Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Assault, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, 1st Degree Tampering and Driving While License Revoked with no bond.

Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
