BRANSON, Mo. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri says everyone affected by last year’s duck boat tragedy on Table Rock Lake near Branson “deserves answers,” and he is urging federal agencies to wrap up their investigations.

The Republican senator released a statement on Friday marking the one-year anniversary of the accident that killed 17 people . He says the U.S. Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board have had “more than enough time” to finish investigating and issue recommendations and new safety measures.

Ripley Entertainment, the operator of the duck boat, says in a statement that it is “deeply committed” to supporting families impacted by the accident. It has settled or is in the process of settling more than half of the lawsuits.

Three employees face federal charges , including the boat captain.

The full statement from U.S. Senator Roy Blunt:

“One year ago, 17 people lost their lives in the duck boat tragedy at Table Rock Lake. We remember the victims and pray for their families and loved ones. We are forever grateful for the first responders who answered the call that day, and for everyone in the Branson community who came together to offer their support.”

Today, Senator Blunt is asking authorities in the Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board to finish up their investigations of the incident so any new safety regulations can be implement in order to ensure a mass casualty event like this will not happen again.

“Everyone who has been affected by this tragedy deserves answers and the certainty that it will never happen again. The Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board have had more than enough time to complete their investigations, issue recommendations, and implement new safety measures. That work must be done soon, and Congress should be prepared to take any action necessary to keep people safe.”
