Salvation Army Opens Cooling Center

The Salvation Army in Springfield has opened a cooling center to help people who need a place to get out of the heat.

You can come into the building at Kansas and Chestnut from 8:30 to 4:30 from today through Friday.

It’s not an overnight shelter, but it does offer free water, restrooms, and air-conditioning during the day.

The National Weather Service says heat indices could reach up to 110 degrees.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect through Saturday for counties north and west of I-44.

An Excessive Heat Advisory is in effect for everyone else.
