Springfield Raises Minimum Age of Tobacco Purchase

City council leaders have approved an ordinance to raise the minimum age of tobacco purchase in the city from 18 to 21.

All tobacco products, including alternative products like e-cigarettes, now require an age of 21 or older to purchase.

The city hopes to push back at younger and younger tobacco usage in Greene County. Statistics indicate that the current age at which the average person starts using tobacco in Greene County is twelve.
