A bill waiting for the Governor’s approval is seeking to restrict Missouri school districts from starting the school year too early.
The bill would require schools to not start earlier than 14 days before Labor Day.
Local businesses who support the measure say those extra days of summer could generate a lot of revenue for the tourism industry, arguing some of the money earned would go back to schools.
Those against the bill say starting school a little later would drastically change the school schedule and push back the first semester too far into Christmas break.
Some schools says state testing could also be affected.
