Study Says 1/3 Of Teens Taking Advantage Of Summer Jobs

A study from the Pew Research Center has found that only about 35% of teens had jobs over the summer last year.

This doesn’t mean jobs aren’t available.

A big job provider in the area is the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.

Spokeswoman Jenny Fillmer Edwards says every summer “they hire about 400 people that are part-time seasonal positions and the parks board will hire teens as young as 15.

Fillmer Edwards says“it’s hard every summer to fill all of the positions because they have so many.”

Fast food, retail, call centers are all very open to hiring teenagers for the summer.

The Missouri Career Center says there are a lot of opportunities for summer jobs for teens.

Spokeswoman Kathy Trombetta with the career center says teens should have those soft skills, “show up for work on time, present themselves in a positive manner, and have a good attitude and a great work ethic.”
