Several roads west of Springfield and in the Willard area are causing major traffic impacts for those heading to and from the Springfield-Branson National Airport this morning.

One of the main slow downs is along Chestnut Expressway, where several feet of water can be seen under the railroad bridge. MoDOT says West Chestnut Expressway is completely shut down east of I-44.

There’s been roads closed crossing West Bypass as well. Lanes of Division are shut down across the bypass due to flooding.

The same goes for Division as it turns into Highway EE, northwest of Springfield. Highway EE is mostly blocked near the airport.

Go Patrol spotters report even Airport Boulevard only has half of one lane open going to and from the airport. Traffic is having to alternate between directions.

Flash flooding is a major issue Thursday morning after severe weather and tornadoes moved through the Ozarks Wednesday evening and through the overnight hours.

The National Weather Service says more than 5 inches of rain fell at the airport between 5-8:00 a.m.
