Today’s the deadline to file your federal income tax return. If you don’t file on time, you can get a six-month extension, but that doesn’t extend the time to pay your tax.
If you owe and don’t pay by today, you’ll have interest on the unpaid tax and could be hit with additional late penalties.
The IRS says taxpayers should estimate and pay any owed taxes by the deadline to avoid a potential late-filing penalty.
To avoid penalties and interest, pay the full amount owed now.
