MoDOT Crews Are Gearing Up For Winter Weather Across The Ozarks

MoDOT is gearing up for the winter weather that is creeping towards the Ozarks.

District Maintenance Engineer Darin Hamelink says they have 274 trucks on hand and ready to treat the roads.

With the expected rain overnight, as we head in towards the early morning on Saturday, the temperatures are expected to drop quickly. The rapid temperature drop allows for the possibility of flash freezing.

“Drivers just need to be aware of the possibility of flash freezing. In Springfield the greatest potential for flash freezing will be between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday morning,” Hamelink says.

Hamelink adds that they will have crews out well before the storm. In the Springfield Metro area crews will be heading out around 3 a.m.

He urges drivers need to be careful on the roads Saturday morning because they could be slick.

You can check current road condition by visiting MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map.
