Springfield city council is considering a plan to offer a 25 percent tax abatement to businesses who build their facilities to meet LEED environmental standards promoting energy conservation. Ryan Mooney with the Springfield Chamber of Commerce says the plan is a good improvement to the enhanced enterprise zone area of the city, which already offers some tax abatements. One member of the public spoke out against the plan saying tax abatements take money away from schools and other city services. The city says no school districts in the affected area have spoken out against the plan.
