There was a fire overnight at Branson Meadow Assisted Living along Gretna Road. Branson Division Fire Chief Ted Martin says the fire was actually out before they got there, thanks to a sprinkler system. One woman was helped to safety. Martin says legislation pushed through this year shows why it's so important to have smoke alarms in every room of a nursing home of assisted living facility, not just a common area as industry leaders pushed for. The legislation was prompted by the fire at the Anderson Guest House a few years ago in McDonald County that left 11 people dead. Investigators say the fire started in the couch. No word on the cause.
