CU seeks rate increase for natural gas

The Springfield City Utilities says it passed the 4.1 percent increase on the base rate of service for natural gas.  A spokesman for CU says the rate hike is needed to cover operational and maintenance expenses on the natural gas system.  He says the resolution now moves to the city council and if it passes, the increase will take effect October 1, 2008.

The CU spokesman also says the Fellows Lake spillway was damaged during the heavy rain storms.  He says the dam has passed inspection and is in great condition, but the spill way will need up to $500,000 in repairs.  Greene County Emergency Management and FEMA will tour the damage next week.  Repairs will hopefully start when water levels fall.
