State Lawmaker Will Introduce Bill To Outlaw Hand Held Devices On The Road

A state rep. from St. Joseph is planning to introduce a bill in the next session to bar all use of hand held devices behind the wheel. 

Galen Higdon tells the Missourinet that the former 30-year law enforcement officer says although it’s important to do away with texting and handling cell phones while driving, he's happy to see hands free technology run its course.

Data from the Missouri Department of Transportation, or MoDOT, indicates distracted driving contributed to 16-thousand crashes across the state in 2016.

Kelly Jackson with MoDOT says accidents involving texting are hard to track and are lumped into the "distracted driving category".
