Violent Crime Up In Springfield In 2012
Violent crime is up across the board in Springfield.
The just released 2012 Uniform Crime Report shows higher numbers for homicides, rapes, robberies, criminal assaults and domestic violence.
Police say they're disappointed with the numbers because they don't want to see any kind of crimes rise.
Police say the despite the discouraging numbers, Springfield remains a safe place to live and work.
Many of the crimes against people were not random.
One positive note, vehicle thefts were down 28 percent from the year before. Police credit that drop to the success of their "Lock It To Stop It Campaign."
