The Boy Scouts of America are celebrating their 100-th anniversary during the national jamboree once again being held on an Army base in Virginia. Nearly 100 of the more than 46,000 scouts going this year were from the Springfield area. Troop 676 Scout Master Jeff Merkling from Nixa is doing maintenance on the grounds. He says it's been quite a week already, with Secretary of State Robert Gates as the guest speaker. He says Gates really motivated the boys. Several past presidents have been the guest speaker at this event, but President Obama will not be there for the 100 anniversary celebration. Some groups have been blasting him for appearing on the 'The View' instead of spending time with the Boy Scouts.
